Contactors

Contactors are mechanical switching devices which are capable of making, carrying and breaking electric current under normal circuit conditions and overload conditions. The two varieties of contactors are push-button type contactor and electromagnetic-type contactor. Push-button type contactor offers a fine control over make and break of an electric circuit by merely pressing a button. On release of the button, spring inside the button brings the contact back to its initial position. Silver contact tips are used here to withstand a number of switching operations. These contactors are used in starting, stopping, and reversing operations. In electromagnetic-type contactor, electromagnetic force is used for making and breaking of an electric circuit. Here according to the rating, a coil is connected across a voltage source. Coil gets energized by the supply source and is available for different voltage ratings of ac, dc or combination of both.
